A New Dimension
September1-October 25th, 2010
Whatnot Gallery, Spindleworks
7 Lincoln Street, Brunswick
reception: September 10th 5-8pm
One of the things that keeps the Spindleworks program so vibrant is the artists’ curiosity and willingness to try new things, to explore and push their work in new directions and dimensions. The Whatnot gallery wraps up the summer with a collection of just this sort of work. Though our woodshop has been closed since the winter for an overhaul, new projects in wood, plaster, and found objects are still emerging from the studios. In this latest grouping, mediums and ideas from disparate places join to create new perspectives, and as always, shine joy and humor on everyday objects and ideas.
In addition to the three dimensional work, Spindleworks is celebrating the reopening of our woodshop, renamed the “3-D Studio” where we the artists will be able to create more work in a broader range of mediums. The new shop is made possible by a grant from the Alfred M. Senter Fund, in response to a need for a safer and more accessible space, and for more equipment to allow a greater range of artists to work with safety and independence. The artists and staff are grateful for this funding which has allowed us to bring our shop up to ADAA compliance. Come tour the shop while the floors are still clean and the benches are still clear. You can be sure that it will not remain spotless for long, as the artists have been watching the progress since the fall and are eager to explore this new dimension to the Spindleworks program.
